From this the straight flush hand is easy to understand, since any consecutive series of five cards of the same suit comes under the category.

Four of a kind hand happens when our cards of the same rank is held. If the rookie player is playing a game with more than one deck of cards, it may happen that several players have a four of a kind hand. Then the winning player is determined by the rank of the fifth card. If the beginner is holding a full house hand, it means that he has three cards of one rank and two cards of another rank. The rank with three cards determines the strength of the hand. So, three ace and two king full house hand is stronger than three king and two ace combination. A flush hand is when the five cards belong to the same suit but are not in a series whereas a straight hand has card in sequence but of mixed suit. Other major hand ranking that a beginner of poker game has to know are the three of a kind, two pair and one pair where the name of the hands defines how cards are being held. When none of the hand ranking is applicable, the player is said to be holding the best possible 5-card high hand.

1) Read books, watch poker videos and benefit of poker schools and poker coachings

Before beginning to play you should read some poker articles and watch poker videos. There are tons of poker videos out there: tutorials and poker championships. But be warned that if you are a newbie you shouldn’t play like the pros do. High stakes games are more different with professional players.

2) Hold’em and fold’em

When you’re playing texas hold’em you have to know when to fold those cards. A very common mistake is that beginners tend to call too many hands. The game can become boring if you are always folding, but you can always try to open more poker tables and to play only premium hands. Try not to think about luck. 3) Downswings

Don’t let bad beats get you down. Even the pros have a bad day. Even if poker requires more skill than luck, you can’t win all the time. If you see that you’re losing, leave the table and try it again the next day.

4) Play against less skillful opponents

Always play at the betting limit that suits you. If you are an absolute beginner, start with the lowest limit. If you see that you are making a steady profit at that limit you can move up a limit. If you are losing at the higher limit than get back to the initial limit you were best at, so you can build up your bankroll again.

5) Understand player position

When you start playing poker one of the most important skills is to understand player position. You have to know that you have the best chances, when you are the dealer.

6) Don’t bluff too often

Yes. Bluffing is part of the game, but too much bluffing will negatively affect your bankroll. Try different situations and you will learn how to bluff.

7) Be unpredictable

You have to mix up your game style. Don’t fold each time when you are the big blind and the small blind raises. Don’t go all in all the time. When you have something like AA raise it on one occasion and only call a raise on another.

Don’t play when you are in bad mood, when you are angry or drunk. You will only lose money this way.

9) Watch your opponent

Figure out what player type your opponent is. If he is a calling station you should raise him more often. If he is playing only premium hands be more careful with him. If he bluffs every second hand re-raise him.
